TWIN LAKES PARK
COOPERATIVE
Celebrating 100 Years!
Twin Lakes Park has a rich history rooted in natural beauty and community spirit. Initially home to Native American tribes, the area became a recreational haven in 1867 when the Waltonian Club of Rockford, Illinois, purchased land between Mary and Elizabeth Lakes. Their love of fishing and outdoor activities set the foundation for Twin Lakes’ reputation as a retreat.
In 1897, Virgil Brand acquired the Waltonian Club’s land, enhancing the area with a grand clubhouse, later lost to fire in 1904. By 1921, the Twin Lakes Park Association purchased this land to develop the Twin Lakes Park subdivision established in 1921 followed by the Mt. Moriah Subdivision in 1923.
The formation of the Twin Lakes Park tax exempt cooperative in 1963 solidified a legacy of conservation and community, ensuring the area remains a cherished destination for generations to come.
